Running and Reading Challenge

Open to ages 12 and under.

Description

The Running and Reading challenge is for kids under the age of 12. The objective is to run a 10k (6.2 miles) and read 10 books.  Mileage can be logged in any increment  but has to be uploaded to the results tab to qualify. All participants that complete the challenge will receive Cooper River Bridge Run Swag, a Medal, and a buff from Vapor Apparel.

“The keys to life are running and reading. When you’re running, there’s a little person that talks to you and says, “Oh I’m tired. My lung’s about to pop. I’m so hurt. There’s no way I can possibly continue.” You want to quit. If you learn how to defeat that person when you’re running, you will know to not quit when things get hard in your life. For reading: there have been gazillions of people that have lived before all of us. There’s no new problem you could have–with your parents, with school, with a bully. There’s no new problem that someone hasn’t already had and written about it in a book.” Will Smith

FAQ

What is a virtual challenge and how does it work?

Students under the age of 12 must read 10 books and run a 10k (6.2 miles) before summer break.

How will I submit my results / track my mileage?

You’re welcome to use any app or system you prefer to track your mileage, but the miles you complete also need to be entered following these steps:

1. Once you've completed an activity, click the Results tab on our race website.

2. Select the "Submit Virtual Results" button at the top of the screen.

3. Search for yourself amongst the registered participants either by first and last name or by email address and date of birth.

4. Once you've located yourself, select Submit Virtual Results.

5. Enter in your time and distance then select Submit Activity.

The system will keep track of your progress and will also provide you with your activity timeline.

For additional information and alternate methods of submitting your results, view RunSignUp's tutorial.

Do we need to download the RunSignUp app to “check in” each time we start walking/running/jogging?

There’s no need to download the RunSignUp app to track your results. The best way to log your miles is to manually add them on the race website. Their website makes it very easy and we recommend logging your results after each activity so you don’t forget! 😊

When should I expect my race package?

Race packages will be delivered to each school after registration closes on May 17!

Will I need to submit my results in order to get my medal?

Yes, you will need to submit your results to show that you’ve completed the challenge.
